
![]() Zhonghua City GateVisit China’s biggest castle-style gate, which has guarded Nanjing since 1387. Nanjing was the capital of China during the reign of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang in the Ming Dynasty. The emperor built a wall around the city in 1366 to prevent attacks from rival tribes. The Gate of Gathering Treasure (Zhonghua Gate) was built to replace an older gate. The huge fortified gate house had space for 3,000 soldiers. |

Also known as Fuzimiao, the temple was destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries.
