Wuzhen

Experience the traditional cultures of eastern China at this lovely water town lying between Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. Its name means ‘town of the crow’ in Chinese, and Wuzhen is famous for being the birthplace of revolutionary writer Mao Dun. His 19th century house is one of the town’s most visited attractions. Also worth a look are the Fanglu Pavilion, and Tongji and Renji Bridges. Tongji crosses the river from east to west, while Renji spans it from north to south.
